Tofu was only four months old when she was brought to a high-kill shelter in Romania. The facility was packed, and the staff was overworked. If she didn’t find a home soon, there was a good chance she would be put to sleep.
Although puppies are usually what potential adopters look for, the young pooch had some issues. Because she had never known love coming from humans, Tofu was frightened of them. The staff even thinks some people may have abused her, and she was traumatized by her horrifying experience.
She needed someone caring and patient to help her overcome her fears.
New life
That someone came in the form of a woman named Rosanne Van Zanten, a pet store owner from the Netherlands. She saw a photo of Tofu online and read about her predicament. As an animal lover, she felt sorry for the pup and wanted to save her. The kind lady made a six-day road trip to adopt the pooch and take her home.
Although Tofu received much love and attention from Rosanne, she had little progress. She preferred to be alone and wouldn’t even play with her new canine sibling. The frightened puppy also didn’t like going out of the house, including going on walks.
Happy place
Four months after Rosanne adopted Tofu, they visited a flower field. It was the first time the pup went to one, and there was a sudden change in her. She looked happier and loved to sit in the middle of them. She was also more active and playful.
Rosanne loved the positive change on her, and they made frequent trips to various flower fields. The owner would also take beautiful photos of the happy pooch. Since then, the young dog has become more confident and outgoing. She has found a new meaning in life thanks to a caring mom.
