When a dog is skin and bones, full of mange, and hardly responsive, people assume it will soon be dead. However, most people don’t realize that even dogs in such a state can be saved and given a chance. A Siberian husky named Ryker is living proof that a miraculous transformation is possible.
The veterinarian who saw Ryker classified him as barely alive. He was surrendered to that vet because his previous owner wanted him euthanized. However, when he met a woman named Hilary, he wagged his tail as enthusiastically as possible.
Ryker’s body looked dire, but his eyes showed determination to live. Hillary knew she had to foster him and give him hope. This proved to actually be one of the best fostering decisions she has ever made.
Hillary learned a lot about Ryker while caring for him. She saw how much he enjoyed playing with toys and hanging out with other dogs. Most importantly, she heard how vocal Ryker got when he was happy.
After a few months under foster care, Ryker gained the right weight and regrew his fur. During this time, Hillary searched for a family who knew how to handle a husky. Ryker is a goofy dog who needs patient and understanding owners.
Hillary finally found the perfect adopters for Ryker, who goes by Nick and Donna. She drove for 27 hours straight so she could deliver Ryker to his new home. Upon arriving, the dog met another husky named Dallas, and they became brothers.
Hillary felt lucky to have the privilege of saving and providing for Ryker. She has fostered hundreds of dogs, but he was the one who made so much impact in her life. He will be remembered as the dog who was barely alive that pulled through.
