Our pet doggos can take on a lot of roles in our lives, but the one that we love the most is when they become our heroes. As the old adage goes, not all heroes wear capes. It turns out that, sometimes, they wear a collar and they have furry armor.
In Meridian, Idaho, a pug was awarded the Hometown Hero Award after he saved his family from a house fire. This heroic pooch is Jaxson. The 11-year-old pupper was the first non-human recipient of this award, and he totally deserved it.
His dog mom, Mikaela Sebree, shared in an interview that they knew something was wrong that fateful night because of how Jaxson barked. She explained that the pug has different barks for different situations or emotions, and on that evening, the fur baby let his humans know that something terrible was happening.
Fortunately, Mikaela and her husband, Todd Lavoie, did not go to sleep yet. If they did, they never would’ve heard their doggo barking. When Todd went downstairs to investigate, he saw a lot of sparks flying out of an electrical outlet. Not long after, the sparks turned into a small fire.
Todd grabbed the fire extinguisher and put the flame out before it could grow. Although he’s the one who put out the fire, he gives all the credit to their dog Jaxson. And the local fire chief agreed with Todd. He also explained that if the pupper didn’t realize what was going on, the flame could’ve grown bigger, and it would’ve caused a lot of damage.
So aside from the award that the pooch received at the city hall, Jaxson was also proclaimed as a probationary firefighter by the local fire department. Check out the doggy clip below to see Jaxson receiving his Hometown Hero Award.
