Trust is one of those things that has a one-strike policy. Once someone breaks another’s trust, usually it can never be repaired or, even if the two parties try to fix things, it will never be the same as before. But despite us humans being undeserving, dogs are always ready to give us a second chance.
But, it will take some doing before we gain their trust for a second time. Remember, we can’t use our words and our reasoning with dogs. So, we have to show them that we are indeed trustworthy. Besides, actions really do speak louder than our words, as everyone says.
Luckily for this stray pup, the veterinarian that took him in knew this exactly, and it led to more than just her trust being fixed; her life was saved. Dr. Andy Mathis is the hero vet in this story. He was about to close up shop when he got a call from a rescuer who found a stray dog along a dirt road.
The vet was kind enough to wait for them, and when the pup got to his clinic, his heart was broken to pieces. The rescued dog was in such terrible condition. She was, hypothermic, anemic, and overall, her body was just breaking down, and all signs are pointing to the grim truth, that she was going to die sooner or later.
In cases like these, experts will always resort to euthanasia. But this time around, Dr. Mathis was reluctant to take the easy way out. He asked his colleagues and his friends about what to do; he was then told to name her first, and then try his best to nurse her back to health.
Dr. Mathis was doing his best, there is no question, but the dog’s will to live isn’t there anymore. She was abused so much by humans that she became uncomfortable around anyone. In order to break through this wall, the vet locked himself up inside her kennel and ate his breakfast there, and the result was amazing. Graycie Clair is now getting her health back, and she started to trust us, humans, again. See the video below.
