Matt Hedrick and Kaylee Donnelly were two of the many people who experienced the nightmare of losing their beloved pet. Their Beagle named Cooter disappeared from their home in Pope County, Arkansas several weeks before Christmas.
It was a busy day at Hedrick’s and Donnelly’s home, and everyone enjoyed themselves as they chatted with one another. At that time, they still saw Cooter run happily around their yard. No one knew that Cooter would disappear after that.
The worried family posted ‘missing dog’ flyers and alerted people on Facebook, but they haven’t had any luck finding him. Days turned to weeks, and the family grew increasingly worried that they wouldn’t find their beloved Beagle ever again.
It’s been two months since Cooter disappeared when Hedrick and Donnelly received a call on a Monday morning. The woman on the phone told the family that she had found Cooter. Overjoyed, the couple, including their 12-year-old son, cried out of relief and joy.
But nobody expected that the caller was from Palm Coast, Florida, a thousand miles away from their home in Arkansas! With all the lingering questions about Cooter’s journey, their joy and anticipation override all their worries, and they were more than ready to see him again. So, they prepared to drive to Palm Coast to get Cooter.
Before the trip, the Arkansas couple reciprocated the gesture by giving the finder a Beagle puppy from the same litter as Cooper’s as a way of expressing their gratitude. The owner didn’t ask for this, but we hope that the sudden permanent addition to their family would benefit the new puppy and its new family.
While discussing their success in finding Cooter, the couple believed that sewing their dog’s name on his collar contributed to his safe return. Therefore, they encourage other pet owners to do the same, as it’s not easy to remove.
Knowing the story behind Cooter’s disappearance and misadventure will forever be a mystery. Imagine the stories he would share with the family if only he could speak. What matters is that he is home, just in time for the most festive time of the year!
