A 72-year-old homeless man named Pedro Carrion was devastated when he discovered that his beloved pet was missing one day. The two of them frequently stayed in Miami Lakes near the Palmetto Expressway. Sky Dim, the five-year-old pooch, was the elderly man’s only companion and regarded the chihuahua mix as his only family.
Pedro had no idea if his pooch was stolen or if someone picked him up, thinking he was a stray. It wasn’t the first time someone tried to take the dog away from him. Nevertheless, he missed his dog so much, and being apart from the canine was a tremendous heartbreak.
The pooch wasn’t just his child, he was also his emotional support animal.
Caring community
People who knew Pedro saw how losing the dog affected him so much. He was getting hopeless, and his health deteriorated physically and mentally. Fearing that his situation might get worse, they rallied the community to help find the missing canine and, at the same time, raise funds to give them a better life.
Someone started a GofundMe page, and they eventually reached their goal of 10,000 dollars. Others took to social media to spread the photos of Sky, hoping someone would see the dog somewhere. Many local residents who knew Pedro shared their experiences with him. They said the homeless man doted on his pet so much and made sure the animal’s needs were met.
Sky got all his vaccinations, was regularly fed, and had a warm and comfortable bed to sleep in. Pedro treated his pet better than himself.
Reunited
With more people joining in the search for Sky, finding her was inevitable. One night, a stranger went to Pedro and returned his pet to him. The senior man was overjoyed to hold his dog again finally. He thanked everyone who did their best to get them reunited.
With the donations that came in, Pedro and Sky moved into better accommodations. Concerned community members are also helping him apply for disability benefits.
