Lee is a woman living in Australia who adopted an adult Golden Retriever named Horlicks. The kind lady showered the dog with love and care, which made the dog connect deeply with her. Like any good boy, he would constantly show affection towards his owner. Unfortunately, though, he has grown very attached to her and developed signs of separation anxiety.
Every time Lee went out, Horlicks would sit or stand by the door and cry loudly. When the owner comes back, her pet is full of stress and anxiety. Sometimes, the dog would guard the door, preventing his mom from going out. This posed many problems when Lee had to go to attend to important matters.
A birthday surprise
The concerned owner tried to think of several ways to help her dog. One thing she thought about was getting him a companion. Lee decided to get a small kitty as cats are known for their independence. Maybe Horlicks could learn a thing or two from them.
So on the dog’s fifth birthday, Lee got him Hero, a tiny British Short-Haired kitten. The gentle Golden Retriever immediately found his new brother and welcomed him. The kitten, though, was apprehensive at first. He had never seen a dog, especially a large one.
Gentle Giant
Hero eventually discovered that Horlicks did not pose any danger. He was a very gentle giant, so sweet and friendly. As the days passed, the two became closer and closer. They eventually started playing together, and Hero would even sleep on top of his canine brother.
Lee’s plan worked. The two became inseparable, and she could leave Horlicks behind for short periods of time. She is so happy that her dog is finally learning to become more independent and is exploring new relationships.
