This Pit Bull became homeless while she was pregnant and had settled in one of the yards of the neighborhood she was frequenting. Her giving birth was just around the corner, and she needed a place that was somewhat isolated from the rest of the area to protect her puppies. In the same yard, there was a machine of some sort, under which she dug a hole. That was where she had her litter of puppies.
It still wasn’t the right place for a vulnerable mother dog and her newborns, however, because they could always be preyed upon by other determined animals. A concerned neighbor saw the situation and immediately asked the Hope For Paws organization for their help. When the rescuers arrived, they started working on closing off all possible exits using the portable plastic fences that they prepared for this rescue mission.
The mama dog wasn’t going to let her rescuers have the upper hand without a fight, though. Fortunately, some of the neighbors volunteered to guard the fence and to surround the area so that she could not leave. The rescuer eventually got to her and locked the snare around her neck.
Now that the mama dog was with the rescuers, they focused on finding her puppies next. After they inspected the hole that she had dug, they confirmed that she gave birth to five puppies. But they were a little too late because only four of them were alive. They collected the surviving puppies and had the other one buried where they found him and his siblings.
They were all suffering from flea infestation, so they were all given a thorough bath when they got to the hospital. This was followed by a check-up which revealed that the mama dog had something stuck in her stomach. It was a soda bottle cover. Surgery was out of the question since she had just given birth.
Finally, they decided to give her a type of medicine that would induce vomiting. They didn’t have to wait long to see the result, and she eventually threw up the bottle cover. With that out of the way, the family could focus on enjoying their new life together.
