Dog reunion stories just have that heartwarming feeling that we all love. As dog parents, we could all imagine how it would feel to lose our pooch, and hearing about these stories online assures us that there is hope as long as we don’t give up on them. Also, a little bit of luck and a microchip can go a long way.
Fortunately for the Joy family, they had all their pupper chipped even as puppies. Army veteran Michael Joy was very grateful that they decided to invest in this technology. Four years ago, they lost their fur baby named Sam when he was only four months old.
The family was about to go on a road trip with their three doggos when all of them got loose and ran away. Two of the pups came back, but Sam didn’t. Just like any other dog parent out there, Michael spent countless hours, roaming around the city and checking on animal shelters nearby for any signs of Sam. Unfortunately, nobody has seen their missing pooch.
The Joy family was about to move from Georgia to Kentucky, and they were trying to delay the move because they still did not find Sam. Eventually, the family went on with the move. They got another doggo and named him Sam, too. But this does not mean that Michael already gave up on his missing fur baby.
In his interview below, the army vet said that he went back to their old city several times just in case someone had seen the original Sam. He went back there around four times. After four years, he received a phone call from an animal shelter from Ohio, claiming that they have Sam!
It was the pup’s microchip that led them back to the Joy family. Michael immediately hopped into his car and drove all the way up to Ohio to recover Sam. The vet shared that it felt like coming home to his family after being deployed overseas for a year. Hear Michael’s account in the video below.
